Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

Pics
Mine were mostly gray with a yellowish head, very similar to yours, although they did not have as much yellow on their bodies. I would wait & see what color they turn out. I think both the Cream & the Golden are very pretty. I would not call mine calm, but they are friendly & curious. Not at all flighty. They like to hop up on things (including me) & look around. They let me pick them up, & are usually the first to come investigate whether I have a treat in my hand.

Good morning, have any new pictures of your babies ? I plan to take some today for comparison. I tried them outside but it is much to hot even though I got them to walk into a foot bath, a seving plate of shallow iced water. Some of them lked the feeling but others were to timid. So they are back in the house. Not much change in their appearance but fuller down and increased size but not much change in crest and muffs.

Mine haven't changed much since the photos from last week. They had puffy cheeky as day-olds, but didn't start to get crests until about 2 weeks. I think I posted some photos of that a few pages back. The crests grew a lot between 2 & 4 weeks, so yours may start changing soon.

My camera is broken and I wanted to post pictures of my baby Brabanters since they are three weeks old and looking more like Brabanters. I do think that most of them are Cream but still not sure about every one. They seem to be on several different schedules as far as wing, hairdos and beards. They are sweet in personality though and clowns also.

My Brabanters are all looking different now at 7 weeks old. I'll try to get some pictures, but that's harder now that they're out in the coop. 1 has a larger rounded crest like a Polish (I wonder whether that's the one that had a slightly vaulted head as a baby), too bad that one has the best spangling of them all. The 2nd has a more upright crest, but is still tilted slightly backwards like a Polish; that one also looks like it may have some gold mixed in. The 3rd has a good crest & OK spangling. The 4th, which is my favorite, has a small crest & less spangling.

We'll see how they look as they grow, but 1 out of 4 with a decent type is not bad for hatchery birds. And they are all healthy & happy & fun to watch which is what matters more to me for my backyard flock.

If it is crested like a Polish it could be a golden laced polish. Bad genes in that one LOL!

You would have to let them grow out as much as you can to cull them. With me I have chosen three pullets out of 25 Spitzhauben chicks to make it worthwhile to continue breeding them. Only so few would make it passable for breeding and working from there to get back into the proper crests.

Glad I ran into this post....it's so long, I haven't had time to read it all because I'm on break but I have the Cream Brabanters. Now, the thing is, I hatched out mine from Hand H Poultry, in Texas, and they all really vary in looks. I had to cull one roo because he had deformed feet. Another roo has slightly crooked middle inner toes on each foot. Two have the proper crests, and two have the polish look. One egg I hatched turned out to be some type of white mutt. I hope I don't seem mean, but these chicks I hatched look nothing like the chicks in the pictures she displays on her website. They are pretty though. I also have one chick from Ideal, who I think is adoreable. I'll have to post pics. I have two roos, and two hens--the Ideal one I'm not real sure on yet as it is a bit younger. I will just keep them as pets......They're nice, pleasant, beautiful little chickens.

Didn't Amozondoc or someone else post that Ideal gets their Brabanters from H&H. Well anyway all seven of my chicks are unique also. Most of the 7 are OK so far and 1 looks like a Golden. I remembered that I have a camera on the phone so here goes:
