Brabanters and Spitzhaubens--The Differences PIC HEAVY!

Pics
I was afraid of that! It's hard to get good pictures without an assistant but I tried.
The first one is blurry but it shows the size difference and the top knot difference.

Oh they go thru that gangly stage!

The one with the slicked back hair is a fault, so the pair sitting next to each other would be the ones to look at.

After they molt from their juvy feathers into adult feathers, you can start culling them. At this point except the slicked back hairdo, I would not get rid of them just yet.

Gotta love them!

The picture of the two gang members facing the camera looks like they are members of the Royal Guard or a marching band. Odd combination.

You should know more about the sex in a couple of weeks - crowing will start and the wattles will start to show on the males. The little one does look more like a pullet.

Their crests are so huge at this stage! And these guy's are coal black. They do look like they are in a Royal Guard uniform.

Ewesheep, by the one with the slicked back hair do you mean the one I call odd or the picture after that? I think they both are slicked back? In fact most of them are to an extent.

Never thought about the Royal Guards but it did remind me of something but could not figure out, now you mentioned it!

Slicked back, the third pic.

Decisions, decisions and more decisions...which one should I put under the broody hen, some Spitzhaubens OR Welsummers? Or all three, including the Amerc or Olive Eggers?

Like all breeds, they must be refined for the best type and bred towards that. Spitz have many challenges especially that crest.......spangling too...it's best to wait till they grow up and see what you really have to work with as they change so much when they get older....................EweSheep: hatch all three!................................................................................chrisf

Reminder:
Don't mix Spitz hatching eggs with other breeds' eggs because of LLV. I am also careful not to give raw Spitz eggs to any other breeds.
