If it is blue, as in Andalusian blue, then you have the whole blue/black/splash thing going.

If it is self-blue, it is resessive and requires a copy from both parent to show itself. But once you have it etablished all chicks will show it.

True, wouldn't have to be a light to test breed it, any bird with black would work. But why produce mutts.

In my experience, crossing a columbian patterned bird with a single laced patterned bird produces young that will more closely resemble the columbian pattern, with some extra specks of color, possibly partial lacing into the bib on the males. Not real pretty in either case. Usually took 3 to 4 generations of big hatches to get a few with the right pattern back again.
I was thinking that it would be relatively east to get a decent quality Light to work on improving type at the same time, killing two birds with one stone.

I also found an expired listing on rarebreedauctions for a "Lavender Columbian" "Dan Powell" Brahma, so they are out there. I think the auction originated in SC.

Dan Powell Gold Laced & Buff Laced Brahmas*

My GLB Rooster and 2 of thé hens i got from Daniel Moralez, who go them from Dan Powell.
Those were thé trio I started with. They were hand picked by Dan Himself about 2 years ago.
I love them to death!

They are Not laying currently, but as soon as they pick back up there will be eggs and chicls availble.
they are gorgeous we have 3 gold laced and 2 buff laced from Dan Powell, but more is always good, how much for your eggs or chicks?

Single comb, or any comb issues really, have not a problem in the silver laced for a long time, but I think Reagan was still in office when that project started, so have had some time to work that out.

One the other hand, the blue laced red Brahma project birds still occasionally, and more so in the more recent Cornish projects, seem to be proud of of the Wyandotte contribution to their makeup, and throw a walnut comb every so often. Tim touched on this a while back, I think I really need to go over my hens combs very closely, and see if I can possibly pick up any sign of who might be carrying a single copy of rose comb.

I don't know about Brahmas, but I have been able tell pretty reliably in the male Self-blue (lav) Ameraucanas if they are carriers. Not so much with the females.
