Oh, and of course the peppers. I'm only watering the Pumpkins and squash. Last year I grew a pumpkin that weighed 82 pounds. I'm shooting for 100 this year. They are "Dill's Atlantic Giant". The get larger up north than they do here in Tejas. I'll wake my wife before I go to work and ask her for the diner menu. She might get mad? If it sounds good I'll post it here for all of your enjoyment. I have two Fig trees.

My chicks are growing so fast :)

Probably a dumb question - but can you tell sex on dark brahma chicks by shade/color?
You can tell pretty quickly once they start to feather in. The females feather in mostly gra, while the males will have some black right away. NOT a dumb question.

From all 10 chicks I ordered only one seems to be a dark. The rest are mostly buffs and lights. I am still unsure if its male or female. Also its the only one who has not feathered in. Its mostly fuzzy. Is this common with dark Brahma chicks?

That's what I figured. I have 2 dark pullets that are 2+ years and a dark rooster that is 1+ year, so I couldn't compare them as they grew. Now, I've got 3 more chicks - all slightly different shades of chocolate chipmunk and I was wondering if the shade of their down meant anything.

It's funny (sorta) - I lost all of my lights and buffs from Ideal, either from failure to thrive or predators. The darks just keep on going. Are darks just more hardy in general or would it be a good assumption that Ideal needs to beef up their light & buff lines?

That is an interesting view. I still have all 10 chicks. I also got them from ideal. I hope this won't happen to me.. I only have 1 dark so that would suck. But they are only 3 weeks old so we shall see how things go with them.

I've culled down to ten Buff pullets and Seven cockerels, twelve light cockerels and seven pullets(35 total).....from the about one hundred I hatched this Spring. First show is Sept 8. I will just show Lights at the first show, Buffs are a bit slower to mature. Light cockerels seem to be very good quality, and the Buff females. Too soon to tell on the Buff Ks. None of the light Ps stand out particularly. How about the rest of you who show? How did your hatches go and are you getting ready for show season? BTW, if anyone cares...I had pizza for diner.

At fair Lewis Cunningham judged the fancies. Told me my one bird would have taken first if she was in better condition. Partially my fault she isn't because I pulled broken feathers too close to the fair and partially because they are beginning to molt. He really liked the coloring on the primaries of my light females. By Ohio National everyone should be finished molting and then my birds can really shine!

A pullet is a female less than one year old. At one year they are considered hens. I would not say one variety is any more hardy than another. It may very well be true with a particular hatchery I suppose.
