Hi Chicky. I am not yet breeding, my babies are too young. But I wanted to say

from another Central PA brahma lover!

Hi I am new to chickens and had a few questions about the Brahmas. I am in Central PA and I read that they would be a great bird to withstand the cold. I have been searching for a local breeder but I can't find any that are advertising birds/eggs for sale. Am I looking in the wrong place, or is this a harder bird to keep than I think? They are a large beautiful bird...doesn't everyone want one??

My next step is to stalk people at the county fair to try to find a breeder! Thanks for any information.

If your county fair is anything like ours, which is mostly 4H kids with mostly hatchery type birds, may not be much help. Your better bet would be to find a APA show, (and get there early for best selection). So your next question is likely, How do I find where/when these shows are ? I subscribe to the Poulty Press, which the shows, and breeders advertise in. I have seen shows listed on some web sites, not sure where just now.

Ok so I already posted a pic of my girl and asked if she looked like a banatm, I got one response that said she looked bantam. I just want to see if there are any other opinions on her, Also she has short legs and short wings. I will post a pic again,

That is her the buff brahma

hi Big M,
would love to hear what you think of my new chicks please

kind regards, Angela, Thailand

To be honest, other than making sure they are structurely sound, free of faults, and healthy, I pretty much just keep shoveling feed to them till they are old enough to show me what they got. Which is a considerable investment in time, and feed, with large fowl. But comes the time when you start noticing birds that start to stand out as they mature. Would be much more cost efficent if I could pick my keepers early, but I'm not that good, or smart maybe.

Thanks Big Medicine....guess I'll just have to wait to see which ones develop into keepers.

The first photo (Chick no. 1) I'm unsure if this is a pullet or not. Is there anything that screams pullet to anyone please? If someone could please help me figure out this one chick I'd sure appreciate it.

The others I think are - roo, pullet, pullet. :)

Here's the photos again of the questionable chick:

Looks to be a bantam. How old is she? Weigh her.
