It’s half australorp at least. I’d forgotten until your reply but he said he had that rooster with a mixture of hens.

I agree, it's definitely female. Has a single comb, so not Minorca, possibly Black Australorp. You will have much more definite information in egg color when she starts laying (or in an unlikely situation, doesn't).

The chicken looks the same in that its wing tips are also white. People suggest in this post that it is a black copper maran, additionally, that the white wingtips dropped off with the "hen's" first molt. Maybe we could find more information there.
