Breed?

Hey Everyone! I'm a new chicken farmer, and just got my first brood today!
I got 3 each of 9 breeds.
I'm trying to figure out this breed... It's black and yellow, and has a bright red neck and chest.
I ordered Black Australorps, but haven't seen any photos of Australorps with the bright red down the front.

Looks like a Black Australorp. Is it bleeding, or has a older injury? It may have been stained with something red. You could try to see if it comes off wiping it gently with a cloth soaked in a lukewarm water.

I just contacted Crackle Hatchery, and they referred me to the packing slip... LOL! Should have checked that out first!

Blood doesn't stay cherry red.It's breed marking paint.

All three of that breed have the bright red down the front.

Where did you get them from? It is possible they may have been marked with some red paint.

Cackle... Maybe that's it... But the markings all look the same. I don't want to disturb them now, because they are busy eating.

I just used a wet cloth on one of them and it was coming off... Hope it's not dried blood.

I've never gotten chicks from Cackle, but IIRC they mark chicks more than other hatcheries as an aid to both their sorters and their buyers.

It seems like dried on blood... but could be paint...
I don't know why they would just mark the Australorps especially with red...
All the chicks seem really healthy and lively!
I'm going to contact Cackle.
