Breeders Arrested in LA / Dead chickens in bedroom

I tried to phone the LHS and the voice mail was full, so I sent and email to the vice president of the LHS instead. I said that I was interested in helping and that I would like to give some of these animals a forever loving home, where they would be a part of my family, not just a "pet." The following is the response that I got back.

Thank you for your interest. All the animals taken into custody are being held on a 14 day medical hold. Until we receive enough donations to have the animals seen by a veterinarian we cannot release them to the general public. Most of the dogs have homes at the moment. We are an all volunteer group and depend solely on donations from concerned citizens such as yourself. Donations can be made to Livingston Humane Society PO Box 91 Walker LA 70785 Thank you,Terri Dunlap Vice President , Livingston Humane Society.http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/LA208.html

I replied back to the email and told her that I would be sending a donation in the moring and asked if the animals would be listed on petfinder.com whenever they were available to be placed in homes. I am currently awaiting an answer from her.

There is one thing that bothers me about her reply though. If all of the animals have to be held on a 14 day medical hold, then how is it that most of the dogs have homes already? I admit that I do not know how these organizations are operated, other than that they depend on public donations. That response just threw me off a little bit. My only concern is the safety of the animals.

I will keep all of you informed if/when I receive a reply back from her.

Thanks,
Dorothy

I was just on the phone with my sister and she was watching a news update on this story. So far, there is 240 dead animals found and 87 of those were in the mobile home. They said that there were also 5 children living in the home. I admit that I didn't see or hear this, but my sister made me hold on while she watched it and she told me this. If this is indeed the case, then there was 7 people living in that situation. That is just nasty!!!

Ugh, forget the poor animals... the children! They had 5 children! The animals put a slight distaste in my mouth, but..the children, they bring tears to my eyes..

I cannot believe these people had children in this situation. 5 children living in a house, can't even call it a house, a rusted out trailer, with 87 dead rotting animals..

Please everyone, keep the children in your prayers.. That is aweful.. I hope these people do get jail time for both the animals and the children..

It most likely means that the dogs are spoken for. More than likely by the volunteers at the shelter or the foster homes. They may not actually "be" in the homes, but they already have home lined up.

If you watch the news clips, they stated that the five children are with family members. Are the children safe with the family members? Where were the family members all this time? The parents didn't get themselves into this situation overnight.

Right, I find that quite disturbing.

Thanks Kim.

I just received a reply to the email. Terri said that most of the dogs are in foster care for the 14 day medical hold. After the hold, most of the caregivers are going to adopt the dogs. She also said that the mini horse and donkey went to a vet. and that someone there was interested in taking them both home after the hold was up.

I feel really bad for all of the animals, but those poor children. They ranged in age from 3 to 13. I read one of the links that was posted by olddairyfarm and it said that the children were being cared for by relatives. I give credit to the relative/relatives that are caring for these children, but I just wonder why they didn't step up and do something before this all came about. The article didn't say who made the report, but I just do not understand how a family member didn't know the conditions there. This situation didn't just happen over night. It had to have been going on for quite some time.

Glad to see that I am not the only one thinking the same thing about the family members....lol

You all posted before I finished typing and trying to word it so that I didn't seem like I was bashing the family member...lol

Its a very sad situation for the children. Obviously the parents won't be coming home anytime soon. I just hope that the social worker responsible for looking out for the childrens best interest is thinking the same thing and checks in on the children unexpectedly from time to time. But the situation with the family members has to be better than what they have been living and witnessing.

I agree with you. I will probably have bad dreams about what those poor children have had to witness.

IMO - Something has to be wrong with the parents. I just cannot see how anyone could live in such conditions, much less make their children live in them. Don't get me wrong, there is no excuse for anyone to live like that. I just do not see a "sane" person living a such a life.
