Brooder question

What’s the sad face for  Not like they will be living in the mud room permanently. Time to find a different spot. Chicks are dusty little buggers
Which is why they got moved out there.. lol too dusty. It’s been cold here still night lows are in the teens. Highs in the day have ranged from 30-50 degrees.

What’s considered to cold
I had quail chicks and chicken chicks in the barn under heat lamp down into the teens.
OP it would be helpful if you listed your general location.
@aart need your help over here with that location thing you have a speed dial :lau
Northwoods Wi, I’d also like to say that my coop is being built currently, and will be done in a couple weeks.

Currently my temp inside. But I’m just looking for Ventilation ideas. I’m wondering if a box fan with a filter on it would be good. And I do open the door to the garage for a bit each day. I just can’t leave it open. Because then my furnace runs constantly. :)

Does your bathroom have a ventilation fan?

If it does you might rig up a temporary ductwork from it to the mud room somehow and then run your bathroom fan a little.

Mud room is a room off my kitchen where you keep coats and boots. Lol View attachment 2584524View attachment 2584525
Wow you turned the whole room into a coop! This is awesome haha. Not much to be done about the dust really, except keep managing it as you go. There's definitely a lesson to be learned here (one that must of us have already learned): the coop should come before the chickens! At five weeks old, I would nix the extra heat, and only keep the heat lamp on to help get them used to cooler temps so you can move them out asap. I've let broodies raise chicks outside and she takes them out in temps as low as 40. Chicks will dart under the heat (mom) as needed. I've moved (brooded indoor) chicks as young as six weeks into the main coop with no supplemental heat when nighttime temps were going down to the 60s, so at this age there is definitely wiggle room in how much heat they need. In the mean time, work on that coop and enjoy those babies! You're doing a good job.

Yea.. I know the coop before the chickens. I fought my husband on it when they came home. He was being lazy. And now I’m paying the price. The coop will be done in 2 weeks. The heat in the room is just heat from the house there is a heater vent in there. I have a heat lamp in there it stays about 70-72 degrees under the lamp, and not under the lamp 65-70. I crack the door to the garage every day for about 1/2 an hour. Then close it up. I think I’m more worried about the poop creating problems. I do clean in there every couple of days. But this is all my husbands fault 100% and believe me I’m not happy with him.
