Broody Hen Thread!

Our old game hen went broody about a month ago, then a week later our other game hen, & then our bantam another week later. If one hen goes broody, do other hens exhibit the same behavior or is it just coincidence?
Broodiness is considered ''contagious'',if one hen sees another broody then she wants to too

Well the duckling didn't make it ,poor thing.

Well I ditched the last 3 eggs from broody #1 nest. There was no embryo in any of them. Oh well. I have 3 wooden eggs in her nest to fool her until I can get into another broody nest. Got my incubator fired up for the transition period.

All my hens but 2 that were broody is off the nest, its just way to hot here in Oklahoma now, they will go back after it starts cooling off!

can anybody tell me why my broody silkie that is sitting on 9 eggs is laying more she is a bantam by herself and is laying another egg everday she has been sitting 4 days

My silkie hen loves to mess with me. She will sit in her nest all day and just when I think she is broody she will get up and sleep with the rest of the chickens. Tonight she was still in her nest! I'm going to wait a few more days just to make sure and then I will slip her some eggs. Fingers crossed!

I managed last night to get 3 Malines eggs under my poor first broody who had lost 6 BLRW eggs. All 6 had gone rotten.

Now she just needs to hold on until Monday when they should hatch. Should be an interesting sight, watching 3 broodies with chicks hatching out on the same day. Woo hoo!
