Buckeye Breed Discussion!

My only Buckeye passed away from old age just over a year ago. She was wonderful and Queen of the world! It's been tough to find even a hatchery that carries them. I'm hoping to find someone who sells hatching eggs or chicks for February..hopefully Jeff Lay lines ( strain). Anybody have any ideas? I have a friend that travels to just over the Kentucky line into Ohio, on occasion.

I can tell you, since i just recently was shopping for them, that Meyer Hatchery in Ohio carries them, Cackle Hatchery in MO carries them but are out until next year. According to the postal tracking on the ones I ordered from Hoover in Iowa, mine are coming from Minnesota... so apparently they are outsourcing for them. Good luck!

I've been wanting to add Buckeye genetics to my Naked Neck project for awhile now, and finally ordered some from Hoover. I realize that big hatchery birds are not to SOP, but I don't want them for show anyway. I just want some of the desirable traits I keep reading about to add to my existing flock. The personalities I keep reading about and the dual purpose build as my project is for a dual purpose, sustainable flock. I'm hoping Hoover's BE's aren't too lean, but I can't find any reviews on theirs anywhere. I only ordered from them because they are so cheap, and beggars can't be choosers. So crossing my fingers that at least some of them grow up to be worth using. They are due to be shipped next week, so I'll probably post occasional updates.

I accidentally ended up with some buckeye silkie crosses the year. The cockerels are gorgeous!

Update, the Buckeye chicks from Hoover all arrived dead. I didn't know until after I got the tracking number after they were shipped that they weren't actually coming from Hoover's office location in Iowa, but from Minnesota. Being as I'm in Arizona I would have never ordered them had I known that. Hoover did refund my purchase, but this was a learning experience for me and I will definitely be checking in the future if I order from a big hatchery, where the chicks were coming from.

Hello Buckeye experts

I bought this little chick as a Buff Orpington, as it has grown, it has become clear that it is not an Orpington. Today, someone mentioned that it has a pea comb, when I searched birds with pea combs, I came a cross the buckeye breed. This chick is so friendly, it will come when it hears my voice, fall asleep on my shoulder and is just a sweet little chick.

Can you tell me if buttercup here is a buckeye?
