Buff is Broody Thread!

Day:22
Update #5:

Been a while since I updated but found the time to do it today. Mom is still sitting and seems to be doing good. Ducklings should hatch on Friday! I can't wait!!!:celebrate :love When do you think I should separate mama from the rest of the ducks(close up the coop)? I am really wanting to make sure mama does not stress tho....so any advice for when I do close up the coop? Thanks and can't wait to see how this works out!

You mean close the rest out? Or can you place something around her so the rest can see her but not get to her the the ducklings once they hatch?
Sorry looking at my post that was kinda confusing. The nest is in the coop and I can close the coop so that the other ducks don't get in. I am trying to figure out how to block it off so that the she can see the other ducks vise versa but can't figure out anyway for my current set up...unless I put chicken wire at the coop door instead of closing it...so she can see the ducks and they can't get to her and the ducklings. So when should I block it off? Ducks should hatch Friday...should I do it a week in advance?

As long as they aren’t messing with her I’d wait till mid week unless you have an early Hatcher. Then you’ll want to go ahead and block it off. She’ll want to come out and poop an bathe for humidity so I’d wait till the last minute.

Will the other ducks then lose their night time coop? Or do you have another coop for them?

Ok

If she hasn't been segregated from the flock, why change it now?
Good point!

Yes they will but it will only be for several days as babies will be going to family's after they hatch.

Day 24
Update #6:

All seems good! Just counting down the days!:old I took one of the eggs out today to candle and all looked normal: shadow fills the egg, air pocket visible. There was some yolk looking thing pushed up against the shadow....kinda confused about that....:idunno Besides that all is good! Thanks for yalls help in the process! It has been very fun and I hope we have some ducklings to celebrate with!

Day 27
Update #7
Tomorrow is the day!:wee I can't even wait!:ya Today I separated her from the flock(shut the coop door) and she has done great! :wootHissed at me for the first time today when I looked under the nest to see if any had hatched yet. I am honestly glad she hissed because she had not yet and I know that is a key sign to being broody. Put food and water in there for her(with cat food as a treat). I also candled 2 of the eggs and they where shadowed throughout. No light shown through the egg(which is supposed to happen right?:idunno). Anyway can't wait! I also got a pic(finally) to show you guys. This was taken several minutes ago. I will let you guy know of any progress on Saturday as I will be very busy tomorrow.:he Thanks for all the help. This has been the coolest adventure and I can't wait for some ducklings to be here!:highfive::ya
