Buff Orpington Rant thread!

I know I'm late and haven't been on in a bit, but here I am!

Hatchery Buff Orps are nasty and not floofs. Ew.

IKR that is one reason why I do not buy orps from hatcherys after the last hathcery buy never again they also never go broody which sucks. I buy all my orps from this girl she is amazing at breeding.

Yeah!!! I thought orps were supposed to go broody a lot, but hatchery orps don't do it very often.

Hmmm... My buff orps go broody a lot and they are from Hoovers Hatchery.

Idk, most hatchery orps are made for eggs, not hatching, at least in my experience.

Yes, she is an easter egger but she identifies as an orpington.
Her mom (& bestie) is a hatchery buff orpington & her papa is a blue orpington & ameraucana mix. So, you can understand why she identifies as such.

I love buff orp but not the hatchery ones. Hoover hatchery buff are okay but the other hatchery buffs are not. Never orderd from meyers but I heard their good purebreed fluffballs.

I feel like Hatchery Orps should be considered like an entirly different breed. Because they are NOTHING like Orpingtons, and have strayed so far away from the standard. But I don’t think they should stop breeding them, because there are people like @TheDawg who genuinely like them.

But if they did that with Orps they’d have to do it with other breeds too, Barred Plymouth Rocks are another example, they have gone so far from standard. But people do like the look of them, like I personally like the hatchery ones better than heritage Plymouth rocks, but they aren’t “Plymouth Rocks” anymore. They are “Hatchery Plymouth Rocks.”

They are like a whole different breed.

Just me thinking out loud. I know probably not realistic AT ALL.

He is huge, just under 12 lbs and 24" tall. He is a sweetheart to people but absolutely cannot tolerate other roosters.

The girls love him, but he is a bit of a chauvinist.
