I have recently noticed that my Serama rooster and my blue splash polish had these little red and white bugs around their vent area. Also on the bottom of the feathers there are these clusters of white balls. Does anyone know what parasite these are and how to get rid of them.

lice; permethrin spray/dust available from TSC or wherever your farm supplies are sold. Burn the bedding, and cut off the worst of the egg casings (the white clumps) Depending on your situation, it may be possible to bathe the chickens. Repeat treatment a week-ten days later. I've had good results with an s-methoprene and permethrin spray for dogs; s-metheprene prevents the eggs from hatching, making it easier to control the lice.

They'd appreciate a dust bath in their run, if you don't already have one. That's how chickens naturally kill mites, but it's less effective if there's an infestation.

Thanks for the advice I will try giving them a bath with flee and tick shampoo

Permethrin 10 spray is very good to treat for lice or mites on poultry. Lice will be killed, and if the permethrin is reapplied at 10 day intervals, it will kill the newly hatched lice. There is also a permethrin poultry dust, and both are sold at TSC and other feed stores. That would be much better than dipping the chickens, and it is approved for poultry.

One bottle of this mixed with water 37 ml per gallon of water, can be used in spray bottles, and also in a garden sprayer to treat coop and nests when beeding is removed:
