Building an "Old Style" henhouse.....move in day!....... (pics)

Would you mind posting a link?

If it is old style designs, it would be nice to reference it from here.....it is relevant I think and it would serve two purposes.

Steve, I posted the list of books on this forum, but I am not computer literate enough to figure out how to post the link on the bottom of my signature.

I'm really liking this, Steve. I think the steep roof part may be a challenge to shingle, but well worth it. I can see that if someone didn't make sure to secure the clerestory window area, it could be scary since raccoons could just walk the lower roof and work on getting inside. BUT, I know you'll have that part very secure. Just wanted to mention that to others who may do this type design. Those coons are wily! No chickenwire up there!
I love the natural light that will be in this coop, even with them locked in on an overcast day. If we were to build another coop, I'd seriously consider this design. Thanks for all your progress reports!

You are right Cynthia, that area does need to have locking windows.

The back pitch is 7/12, I can still walk on a 8/12 pitch, although my toenails might be digging in for grip.

Here is a thought for anyone who wishes they had this roof design and has a regular gable type roof.....just cut yours midway up, build a small wall, supporting that 2x8 carrier on your existing walls, and then run your other roof line up to meet the small wall. It wouldn't be that hard at all to renovate what you already have.

I still haven't got on to the shingling phase yet.
