Bumblefoot?

No problem... sorry, I haven't kept up here...

Btw, the iodine pictured is correct... clear iodine is small bottles and can be labeled clear, colorless, decolorized or iodine tincture... most pharmacies carry it... Walmart, CVS and Walgreens all do...

No worries, life has us all busy! I just don't want to give the wrong advice, Thank you again. I was at my local pharmacy and they didn't have the clear iodine, it's not a major chain pharmacy so my next plan was to order online.. but we have Walgreens on every block in this town-or so it seems! Lol I'll swing and check it out!

This will work right? I will start on their feet tomorrow morning View attachment 1180542
yep, thats the stuff

Yeah im so stressed out lol, but the 3 other ducks have small spots on them so its really easy but the 2 pekins and the chickens have it really bad
:hugs pekins are the heaviest duck so they tend to get it the worst

Should i soak them and apply the iodine over the spot once or twice a day for a few days then take off the scab or should i just soak once and take off the scab? I didn't know if applying it for a few days before taking off the scab would help at all so thats why im asking
the iodine helps bring it to a head as does the soaking, but the soaking also help soften the plug

I think it's soak, try and remove scab carefully if you can,dry foot then apply iodine, then wrap foot in clean bandages. Daily. @chickens really please correct me if I'm wrong
sounds good

I just finished reading everything and wow, its very helpful, thank you so much for sending me the link. I soaked everyone tonight and applied iodine and wrapped them up and like i said, tomorrow morning I'll do the surgeries, with how bad the two ducks and chickens are i don't think i can do all of the surgeries in one day though.
try not to to actually cut anything, just pick it out with tweezers

Have you seen this video? I like it because he holds the chicken in a way that keeps them calm and the video seems straight forward.

Best of luck!!
great video :thumbsup

I'm going to soak them and try again tomorrow or I might just do a few days of soaking and iodine, will doing that help the infection come more to a head?
yes

Whoops I just re-read this thread and seen where @DwayneNLiz had already posted the video.

I guess I’ve slept since then!:hmm

I’m curious why I’ve read to soak the feet for several days for about 15 minutes a day, then pick the scab. Could you have them sit long enough on day 1 to get the scab soft enough? I’m sure there is a reason I just haven’t quite figured that part out.
LOL, no worries!!! it could take a couple days of soaking and iodine to get the plug out, it takes some work but its worth it

I soaked them for about 45 minutes this moring and the ducks scabs were not ready, i think soaking them and applying the iodine for a few days brings it more to a head? Not sure
yes, and i think i saw you say that you were applying neosporin (or something similar) you dont need to the soaking and iodine are enough

So to add to my stress while I'm sitting here soaking them I hear the other ducks freak out so I look over and there is the neighbors German Shepherd at my fence, I'm terrified to let the animals free range now, thats the same dog that killed my chicken April last November and almost jumped the fence and killed my other animals multiple times, I've told them to keep him locked up and they don't care at all :he
pellet gun??

I might have to make a separate thread for this but i wanted to ask here too, i woke up yesterday to Grey Boy not being able to walk well and i figured it was a niacin deficiency because he had that a few months ago and i figured he's just prone to it, well he's alot worse today, he won't eat at all, not food, lettuce or anything, which is my biggest concern and he's shaking a little bit, its 53° outside which i don't think is cold enough for him to be shaking, i doubt this has anything to do with his bumblefoot, it's very small and i haven't messed with the scabs at all. I have brewers yeast in his food but like i said, he won't eat. He walks on the back part of his legs, just like he did a few months ago when he had the defficiency. Help @Miss Lydia ?

Can you bring him inside to see if that helps with the shaking? He may be having low blood sugar or in pain. Will he drink? you could try some Nutri drench straight into his bill and add some to his drinking water maybe make the water room temp?

No swelling or redness any where on his feet or legs?

I don't really have anywhere to put him inside, he's in our screened porch in a large pen with lots of hay. He drinks a little, i dont have any nutri drench, all i have is a vitamin and electrolyte mix, will that do anything? No swelling or redness that i see

that is better than nothing, even adding a little brown sugar can help
niacin is B3 so if thats in the mix even better
