Bumblefoot?

Wow i didn't know they could get it that easy, i just came in from checking everyones feet and only my other duck, Magnoila, has it too, two bumble spots on each foot Magnoila and Josephine are both pekins and they have it the worst, im guessing because they're so heavy? Ugh, this is horrible

Yes, heavier breeds seem to get it easier and worse... jumping down onto rocks/hard ground is a common cause...

I just started to check my 2 ducks feet and they don't look like they have any bumble foot but i really don't know because my hen has always had a hard waddle, my drake walks fine. I am new to ducks and i see all these pictures of what "bad"bumble foot looks like but i was wondering if anyone has a picture of what a healthy ducks foot looks like, for reference? The hen has a small bump on one foot, but i can't see if anything is in there......My ducks hate to be touched so this is always a struggle for me because i don't want them to be afraid.
I am going to check them tonight and try to get pictures but would like to see what a normal healthy foot looks like before hand.

Hi there!! I read through this post and several others describing bumblefoot surgery. My duck (a very large jumbo pekin) had a huge bumble covering the back pad of her foot. I got all of the supplies, soaked her foot in Epsom salt as started cutting away at the huge mass. I sprayed with hydrogen peroxide throughout the surgery of about 15 minutes and then wrapped up her foot and put a vinyl shoe on it.
She bled a lot during the surgery, so I changed the bandage and wrapped it very tightly an hour later to stop all of the bleeding. After 30 more minutes, she was dead. I feel horrible obviously and wish I had just taken her to a vet. I didn't see any other posts about ducks bleeding to death during the bumblefoot surgery, so I thought it wasn't going to happen. Please keep an eye on bleeding, especially if it is a large wound. I wish I had been smarter and hadn't killed my favorite duck .

@Casadepatos I Ann so sorry that happened!! if it was that large the surgery may have been too much for her at that point she had a great life as a beloved pet

Unfortunately, there are many recommendations out there advocating cutting surgery... I do not recommend cutting at all unless it becomes a 'no other choice' option... I prefer soaks and scab removal, taking out little bits at a time as it softens...

I'm not sure what caused her death but I'm so sorry for your loss!

Thanks so much for the support! I just wanted to share the warning that this can happen. The duck, Josephine, in this thread looked very similar to my duck's foot.
