BYC Café

Morning! Thanks for the coffee. It is decidedly Fall around here. Some aspens are now losing their gold color to the wind, but some are still green and hanging on. Saw a big ole Papa Moose wooing a Mama on the drive home last evening from picking up the DS$, and a flock of statistics creeping closer for that perfect pic. LOL!
Good Morning Margie,

I like the way you describe some of the walking brain dead people who will wonder 'why me' or loudly say 'I didn't do anything' and of course 'I'm calling my lawyer'

Thanks for the laugh Margie! I needed that this morning. The prodigal cat returned and has been demanding to go back outside....ummm, NO! Not if you are going to be naughty!

Very overcast here, not too hot and not too cold, but the dogs went back to bed already. I'll be baking bars all day today for DH's department picnic tomorrow. He will be cooking a 90 pound pig. He is very excitied!

Have a great day everyone!

Oooooh bacon. I baked a pack of bacon last week, and it turned out really good. (Had never baked bacon before). Was able to have the rest for different recipes for several days.

Thanks for the coffee Scott, I'd better get to work,

Oh, so very happy that kitty returned!!!!!

Grey start to the day here too, but supposed to burn off and be nice - one last day before it settles into a week of cool and rainy, looking forward to sweaters and snuggly clothes!

Margie, I hope that your 'some such necessary nonsense' didn't take to much time away from the critter stuff that always needs done too.
Have a good coffee day everybody, both pots are ready to be poured.
Scott

Smells great in the cafe this morning, Scott, you brew a wonderful smelling pot of coffee!
Good morning folks! Thanks for the coffee Scott.

Do I smell bacon?

Did someone say bacon?? Maybe *that* is why it smelled so good in here.....

EVERYTHING is better with bacon! I keep hearing/seeing people talk about baking bacon, have never tried it that way......what is the process there??? I like the idea of not standing over a sizzling pan of pain and avoiding all the mess of frying.

I just used a baking sheet (the type with a lip all the way around) lined with parchment paper. Laid a whole package on the sheet in strips, and baked it for about 15 minutes in a 400 degree oven. Just keep an eye on it toward the end so you can take it out when it reaches the crispness you like. It really doesn't splatter in the oven, or curl. (I was surprised.)

Then pour the grease out of the pan and throw away the parchment paper and most of the clean up is done! Works great if you are feeding a crowd or need a bunch for recipes.

I cooked bacon too! My BLTs didn't look quite like Leave a light On's - funny post by the way- but I have to do something to use up my tomatoes from the greenhouse. This is the first year that I have gotten tomatoes "to die for" at my house. Nice big sandwich ones that taste wonderful. Not very many, but a few and they must be celebrated!
Coffee and chores, giddy-up!
