Hey, thanks! I sitting out on my patio looking out over the muddy, soggy, yucky backyard--but we finally have sunshine for the first time in what seems like ages. I'm in North Texas, so we are not used to the 7 inches of snow that was dumped on us in between the usual ice storms last month. all of the critters are brown from the wet clay (it can't truthfully be called dirt).
It took me a while to read through the pages...so I'll post a quick summary on my part: I'm a Navy brat who ended up in Texas when parents moved home after Pop retired. Started drinking cafe au lait in kindergarten when dad was stationed in New Orleans (Pop used to give us "blond coffee" to get us up on his days to get us ready for school) so my coffee addiction began early. I'm 5'9" tall so if it's true that coffee stunts your growth, then I should have been a six-foot tall
Amazon.
Traveled a lot when I was younger--never made it to Victoria but spent a few months each in Brisbane and Sydney. Married late, divorced even later. Have two boys in elementary school while my brothers are taking it easy with grandkids. Was never fond of chickens (gathering eggs from nasty, mean old hens in my Aunt's coop in 100+ F degree weather was a horrible experience) but my oldest had begged for chickens since he was 2. So when he turned 10 last year, I relented and he picked out 6 silkies from the feedstore. We are down to only 2 hens left. I've discovered that we have armadillos, opossums (the cats caught one!), raccoons, foxes, hawks, and bobcats. In the suburbs. Who knew? Now we also have a Rottie and Jack Russell Terrier. The JRT to alert the flock and the Rottie to protect the flock. And a new electric fence to protect the flock from the dogs.
Now we have 6 chicks in a brooder so hopefully will have an actual flock again.
