BYC Café

Morning! DL, hope things are okay with the storm.
I think hot coffee is a good idea, Sean! Your kind of cold (damp) is not my kind of cold (Oh, but it is a dry cold), 22F here and falling temps so mugs up!
Have a great day you all!
It's a dry cold this morning! Damp cold is worse down here....if its 45°F and the humidity is high, it feels like its freezing! It just plain feels and is freezing, this morning. :lau

Good morning, Cafe.
Made it through without losing power and no tree damage. Whew!
Winter arrived on the heels of the rain/wind. It's cold out there. And the wind is still here just not as strong.

My chicken dilemmas continue. Annie, the Ancona with the slow crop, is now locked in the broody crate. I hope that Biting Brittany, the PBR that went broody, stays off the nest today. I have hopes that Annie's crop will empty today or tomorrow with her Dulcolox / warm water / crop massage treatments. She's got one hell of a fight in her; lethargic she is NOT. I just don't know why her crop is slow so that is a bit of a concern.
Then there's poor Draco. Still very unsteady on her feet. She really wanted to roost with the flock last night but I kept her in the brooder.
This was her at the end of the day.

This seems like a vicious molt to me. I may post in the ER forum for additional thoughts on the weakness if I can get a video of her walking.

Does anyone have the hospital details for Roomy? That looked like a bad crash.:D
I've got a nice long piece of Bruc (Erica Scorparia) that I could fix a proximity alarm system in just as soon as I've found a modern vehicle and ripped the parking sensor out of it. It's a bit twisty but use will smooth the worst of the bumps out.
I normally sell these for the pipe makers here but Roomy could have this length as emergency transport.

Can you take Draco out of the run for a supervised forage DL?
I may have mentioned before, the hens that have a heavy moult here hardly eat any of the commercial feed but flat out forage for roots and bugs.

If it weren't for her staggered walking, I never would have put her in there. I really need to get a video of it. I have no idea why she is doing that.

Well, the above is what I would do before I did anything else. I've first time moulting hens here that wouldn't come out of the coop. I very carefully carry them to an area I know is good forage and see how they behave. Luckily so far they've all started looking for whatever it is that they need. You need to stay with them and you need to be very gentle handling them because of the danger of busting a pin feather.
