Out of a summer hatch, I thought I had 3 out of 5 that were pullets. Turns out I've got 4 out of 5 that are cockerels. :rantBad odds on that one! We decided these will be our first to be butchered. All DP crosses, so might let them grow a bit more. When do those of you that butcher, butcher your DP's?
I have to butcher them when they start crowing well!

The younger they are the more tender they will be.

You could weigh them once a week and wait until the growth curve is not as steep. There is a point where they will not add much more meat compared to feed cost

That's good to know, Ron. Thank you! They are around 5 months. I'll have to check. Definitely not crowing yet.
 
So did you ask is there a replacement for the lazy driver Diva? I am going to be facing a showdown here soon my darling 2 blue marans cockerel one has started the crow at Red he did a little dance at it like come on dare ya :frowI will not interfere as long as little blood is drawn :celebrate

I interfered with Cheap Shot Charlie and his boy the other day. The former was in the corner with his head pointed at the ground getting pecked on :hmm No matter if he was a jerk or not, couldn't let him be hurt.
