Who in heavens name would cut a beak square glad
you found her
Yes. Mine were from the farm in a barn and they don't go outside, but they have a ton of room. Think they do it to prevent any birds getting injured and lose profit on it because it's feathers have been plucked. Most likely someone with caged production birds - sadly not an uncommon practice.
Dolly has a hard time getting bugs off the ground. The other one is fine.I hate beak cutting! So many nerve ending thingyies in there. It must make life so much more difficult for the bird.

I'm doing mine at 16 weeks that's when @igorsMistress suggested to start looking at my chickens to see if they're big enough yet.Out of a summer hatch, I thought I had 3 out of 5 that were pullets. Turns out I've got 4 out of 5 that are cockerels.Bad odds on that one! We decided these will be our first to be butchered. All DP crosses, so might let them grow a bit more. When do those of you that butcher, butcher your DP's?
Thanks, FC! How long do you rest yours? Do you skin or pluck?I'm doing mine at 16 weeks that's when @igorsMistress suggested to start looking at my chickens to see if they're big enough yet.
I haven't even done it yet. I was told 2-5 days rested. Skinning is easier, but I'm going to try both ways. I'm getting a plucker. Thanks, FC! How long do you rest yours? Do you skin or pluck?
