Well, it's past midday now but so far today I've had 2 giant mugs of coffee and 1 wonderful cappuccino

Today's weather has been pretty nice but we're supposed to get cold again in a couple days. BOO! HISS!

Happy Saturday everyone! OFW, for some reason I thought of you when I saw this: Hope everyone is well and feisty this morning!
Lol yes, this is the largest criminal element here. Though that raccoon gang across the way can be very fierce :D Sorry i missed the morning crowd. We got up early to meet Grandma in the big city of Grand Island this morning, just got home. Hope everyone had a good day and age going to steal this last bit off coffee before I go ;)

Not a happy Saturday after all!

I have my first sick chicken. This morning everything was fine except one eye was closed.

She doesn't have any discharge. So distressed! Never had to deal with this before. And now I'm beating myself up because we brought in a new adult chicken a little over a week ago!

This can be many things it doesnt have to be related to the new Chicken.
Watch her nose as well as her eyes because the sinus cavity is soo close in the chicken skull stuff can come from both.

This is a great link to help diagnose and She is the lady who seems to know how to fix it all!

I lost my Silkie Cock last year to an eye issue that just kept getting worse and worse.
From the looks of it it does appear that there is some swelling under the eye which although stinks is good for finding help. Hairy had the swelling above the eye and I could not find help.

I would try to peel open the eye and make sure all is in tact the eyeball and every thing. Give it a good cleansing with A saline wash and use a warm compress.

AND GOOGLE you will get a lot of advice on how to fix this some people even told me to cut his eye and things so make sure you figure out HER symptoms so you can guage if the information you are getting is fitting to her situation.

Good Luck De'BB I will pray for you both.

Sorry BB. Could she maybe have just gotten pecked? I hope she's ok.

I was really hoping that was the case, but her behavior has changed as the day progresses.

Thanks for the link, I will definitely go read that. I went and spent some time with her. She's all fluffed up, laying down, lethargic, doesn't want to eat or drink. I did get her to eat some assorted scratch grains out of my hand, but she wouldn't touch regular feed. She is not laboring to breathe and doesn't have discharge coming out of her nostrils. I examined the eye and it's clear and no discharge there either. It doesn't look like any injury to the eye either. I'll edit this post and add the other picture I took of her (it's on my phone). I have her in a separate pen with a heat lamp above and food and water. The water has probiotics, vitamins and electrolytes added to it. But then again, she's not drinking and I could only get her to have about two drops of water from a dropper.

How traumatic is it when it's YOU who has the sick chicken!?!
