BYC Café

Morning, cafe. Thanks for the coffee.

Best of luck to you, Shad. That's a very nice thing that you're doing. Wishing you good health in the process.

Branding day tomorrow with a skeleton crew. It's going to be an all day affair and hoping we get it done with no problems. Supposed to be nice and sunny, 51°f (10°c?) and wind, of course :p I've got a cream legbar girl sitting on eggs. Should hatch around the end of the month.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Hey Bruce, I just got some of Rons starter. I remember the other day you said you almost killed yours. What were you doing wrong? I want to avoid as many mistakes as possible, if I can.
It got all nice and foamy as it should, but I didn't know what it was supposed to do so I dutifully stirred it up, tossed half out and added more water and flour. I guess I was throwing out a lot of good yeast "bugs" and diluting it. Also, it seems like when you feed it, it foams up to several times the original size, then falls back down after a couple of hours so if you aren't watching it looks like it isn't doing anything at all. Like Ron said, once it gets foamy, cap and stick it in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Also, some recipes say to use "fed starter". As Ron told me, that means to feed it as normal before you pull out what you need for your recipe.

Here you go. Sort of semi official now. If you get the virus and you have underlying health conditions (whatever they may be?) they're not going to bother treating you.
Seems to say nothing of the sort near as I can read. Says the hospitals are over capacity and they are not treating the elderly, similar to the Reuter's article I found - doing triage and deciding who to treat based on the likelihood that a given person will survive. Some people who would be treated if they had capacity are turned away. HORRIBLE situation, must be just awful for the people having to make those decisions and those people and their families.

Morning! We have around 2 feet of snow and 12 degrees F. Quite lovely out there. :lau
No plows so I am wondering if they are just waiting until it is over or ...
Good thing we are not going anywhere.
Shad, hugs to you. Your eggs will be appreciated.
Stay safe you all!
It's 79° here today. Phew, too hot for this time of year.

Good day everyone. Just laying low. 20200311_134350.jpg
