BYC Café

morning all - thanks for the coffee Shad.
I can't see any provision for its removal post crisis.
I believe that it has since been revised to limit it for 6 months. And to his credit, Boris is still using parliamentary procedures; he has not (yet, at least) gone down the 'declare an emergency' route to simply assume dictatorial powers, which is how so many other countries are doing it. Of course it may come to that sooner or later.

After being surprised by the announcement of our almost-but-not-yet-quite-real-lockdown yesterday evening, and the new advice to food shop as infrequently as possible, I went to the nearest mega-Tesco, which opens at 6am. The chickens emerge about then, so it was about 6.40 by the time I got there. There were hardly any customers at that time, but lots of staff fulfilling online shopping orders, filling shelves, and staffing checkouts ( ). Most of the shelves had something on them, if not necessarily a recognizable brand, or the range of varieties we're used to, but only flour and rice and semi-skimmed milk were completely absent amongst the things on my list. Dried pasta was all gone too. But there was every type of fresh meat, in limited quantities, and some fish. And all of it had considerably longer use-by dates than usual - one of the upsides to depleted stocks :p Rationing was in evidence on a number of lines. I guess (and logic dictates) that the decline in the hospitality industry must be to some extent matched by the rise in the food production, -manufacturing and -retailing sector. Those who were eating out must be eating at home now. Anyway, I think we're set for at least a week now :D

Dobie Lover, some of the people here have been ignoring me for ages. I've been living in the same house for 50+ years Some of the neighbors were living here even longer.

They show their fondness for me by using the front lawn to turn their cars around - I am at the end of the street. They also have swiped the driveway markers the two or three times I have replaced them. Guess I really should get those things police(?) put out to puncture tires.

Folks also use my lawn for their dog's bathroom trips - and no they don't use baggies to pick them up. Probably my fault because I take long daytime naps instead of sitting at the window watching for them.

I should say I haven't been alone here for the full fifty years, my parents were also here when neighbors were doing this. Maybe that's how they welcome folks to the neighborhood.

Mornin', y'all! :frow

Hey, Diva, I missed you. Cyber hug - got my filter on, so no need to worry about computer viruses!:hugs

Took BB2K to work at 7 this morning. She feeds and cleans at a stable; while some might consider that a 'non-essential' business, caring for the animals must be done, as long as there are people healthy enough to do it (and even if they aren't!).

Stopped at my favorite supermarket on the way home. Much like what @Perris observed, there were some gaps, some thin spots, and some spaces filled with products with unfamiliar names. Near the door, there was a pallet of toilet paper. The cashier said it had been in the back, with some sort of cover on it, and they had thought it was water. When they pulled the cover and saw what it was, they moved it out onto the sales floor, immediately. I doubt there are any left by now.

We were talking to the guy we buy our bulls from a couple weeks ago and he'd been pretty sick in late February. He said "Ya know, the cows don't really care if you're sick." :p

In case anyone noticed I was missing - I was doing sleep marathons to shelter in place and not eat up the 2 weeks worth of groceries they said folks should have on hand.

Alright, so I fibbed, I still ate up the 2 weeks worth of groceries (mainly ice cream). :smack
Welcome back.gif

Over here, Seniors can go to Walmart at 6am for a special Senior shopping hour!

The Jade plant blooming
I've never seen one big enough to bloom. Probably don't get that big indoors.

Good morning, Cafe.
Alexa told me the forecast today calls for "dreary" weather. She actually said that...
Your Alexa called it for here! Very gray and dreary out right now.
