Cute.
Another good thing to do with sand?
.....is fill 8 or 16 ounce sour cream containers to put your feed and water on top of.
Keeps them much cleaner.
There are two reasons I add sand at week 2... one for them to start getting some grit in the gizzard to help it develop so I can start giving treats, and the other is to see how long it takes them to start dust bathing (just for fun).. 30 minutes and one was busy taking her first bath. Forgot to mention, it also helps build their immune systems by using 'native' sand and not the store bought variety.

Winter is coming quickly, isn't it? Lots to do
Yes, last year we had a blizzard drop 2' of snow in Nov.
Mostly I want to take advantage of the warmth. :D
But fear I've already overdone it. WarmWeatherWarrior syndrome.

Use real grit ;)

I bought about a 2 gallon bag of granite grit from the local mill, they put it in their chicken scratch. Ran it thru a colander with 1/16" holes. Bagged the smaller stuff for the chicks and sprinkle some over a chunk of sod in the brooder during the second week.

Ya mean real sand with tiny pebbles in it aren't real? Oh mai!

Ha! I know you're very capable, and you could make it fab, but we're not planning on restoring it, just stopping the roof collapsing in, and ideally making it mostly weatherproof. We're lucky it isn't listed, as it is on OS maps from 1841!
I'll work for food as long as you can pay for the materials.:D

Two feet? Oy. The farmers almanac keeps saying were in for it. Seems like it always says that, though. I guess a broken clock is right twice a day...one of these days they'll be correct!

WWW, heh. I like that one.

We hardly got that much the rest of the winter.

WWW...play on WeekEndWarrior.........Mondays pain.

Got a patch ~10-15' raked, seeded, raked, strawed, watered.
Now just gotta keep it watered and hope it holds then sprouts.

Funny that turned into a hyperlink to nowhere! Great that you got some seeding done. I love seeing new grass start popping out of the ground.

I bet your tractor/blower got a workout after that storm. That's nice to have.

I always enjoyed being sore after spending the days outside. It meant I was doing something. Accomplished something. The kind of pain that youth affords you. Now I can't work hard enough to get that kind of sore. Very frustrating for little miss independent! Anyway, don't let me start whining.

My mums are really starting to take off. It's likely to freeze in the coming days = can't forget to bring them in!
