BYC Café

Yes coffee! Morning. Slow also as I seem to be fighting off a cold. The "back to school" plague that all of the kids have, is trying to infest me. Today is DH's BDay and so we are off for pizza tonight at a local hangout. DS@ and # are coming up and also the neighbors are coming because it is her BDay too. I did some training with Jed yesterday with a big pillow on a backpack and a plastic bag with a few treats in it. He can sometimes get nervous ever since the dog pulled his backpack wearing owner into him at eye level. Fortunately the German Shepard did not manage to bite my horse, but the incident did make an impression on him and so he needs refresher "it is okay" tune-ups every now and then.
Off to do chores now so have a wonderful day everyone!

Good to see you again, OGM!

Congrats on the new place - looking forward to pics.

Good morning, gang. Good thinking on the extra strong pot, Scott; though I'm not sure even that will get my motor running this morning.

@Mtn Margie - hope you feel better quickly. And I hear you on the "this is OK" refresher. You'd think that since Latte had to do a double course of Marquis, she'd just about fall asleep being wormed, wouldn't you? Nope. She didn't like it before, still doesn't like it, and I'm like, "oh, come on. Are we still doing this??" So, once again, I very patiently demonstrate that the song-and-dance isn't getting us anywhere. I think some horses are just drama queens.

Mentioning the Big Blonde drama queen, BB2K and I worked with her and Syd a bit yesterday. Latte was dead lame a couple of weeks ago, but she's sound now - though BB2K was understandably uncertain about how sound her mind would be after that much down time. She had to blow up a couple of times while BB2K was lunging her - which, of course, was why BB2K lunged her in the first place. After that, she found her brain, and BB2K felt safe enough getting on her back.

I was very pleased with Syd. I long lined her all over the yard, through the obstacle course, up and down the driveway, and though she kinda looked and leaned in some direction (one that would take her back to her buddies, of course), when I told her to go somewhere else, she did - no ducking out, no refusals, no problems. We have a garden cart/wagon that, in a stroke of inspiration (or sunstroke, not sure which) I replaced the handle with a set of shafts and a singletree. I hitched Syd to it, switched the reins for a lead line, and then the 4 of us went for a walk in the neighborhood. I had to laugh when BB2K asked me if Syd and I could go slower - Latte was dragging her feet. A few blocks from home, the lollygagging got so bad, BB2K was concerned that maybe Latte's leg was hurting and that was why she was going so slow. So, we turned around, and immediately Latte's typical swinging stride returned - and we went home by a rather circuitous route as a result. But everybody got some new experiences, nobody's brain fell out, and I was really tickled to see that Syd is learning that when she's pulling something, changing direction involves stepping sideways to a certain extent. BB2K gave Latte a "B" for the day, I think Syd earned an "A."

Good morning everyone. Had a beautiful weekend here, family came for a visit and we made a trip to the fair. Woke up this morning to thunder and the threat of rain.

Made a fantastic cake yesterday, Chocolate Stout cake with Malted buttercream. I don't usually make cakes, because I don't really like cake, but DH asked for this one... I used a chocolate flavored beer for the cake and the frosting has malted milk powder in it. It was surprisingly good.

Have a great day everybody....I'm off to work!
Oh, my, looks delicious -- have you a recipe you might like to share??? Seems like something DH would really like.

The body is slow - coffee is good. Thanks, Scott. Good morning all.

I just might have to take up this coffee habit I keep hearing so much about - pretty sure it is a requirement before they let you become a full-fledged Oregon resident....though I did make it through my previous 4 years of living here without ever giving in.

Ick, not looking forward to that part of back to school. Hope you are able to enjoy your evening out -- and your DH and neighbor have happy birthdays!

I'm not a beer flavored person but, the malt icing would probably win me over. I'd love a big slice of that cake. Now and then cake is a great departure from eating ice cream constantly.

Good (Humpday) Wednesday Morning

I am so ready for this weekend, I'm in Margie's camp with that 'back-to-school-crud'
Wiggles, that cake sounds so good

Bunny, we have a 'Drama Queen' who is the biggest wimp about any pain that she gets just a pinch of Bute with the rest of the dose applesauce.
cake with ice-cream is about as good as it gets in my book.
Coffee pots are ready, one normal and the extra strong for the rest of us.

Good Morning WVC,

The BOB has showed up over the tree line and it looks like a great morning.
All the GB's are out the door and it is a quiet house for a few hours, so I'm heading out to count noses and see who is where.
Enjoy the day, not hot not cold and it's dry!
Scott
