That actually happened with my DH's family when he was in high school - they came across a car that had been sideswiped on a twisty mountain road. Both of DH's younger sisters were nursing students; his mother tried to get him to stay in the car while the girls rendered what aid they could. They flagged down a passing motorist and got them to go for help (no cell phones then!),
Construction is a dangerous occupation; those who do it for long see some nasty things.. How sad.
Wow that's scary but good they were able to help! I forgot there didn't use to be cell phones. Don't know what you did back then. I guess just that but what if no one was around? Scary.
Very true, didn't think about that but it definitely is dangerous. And sad

My mom was all upset cause she says he probably was all excited to get a new job :/
She also wonders why he was in the trench with a saw on his first day. Maybe he said he had more experience than he did to get the job or didnt get trained or something, we don't know. Obviously not trying to blame anyone or anything like that, it was a tragic freak accident that could have happened to anyone, and they'll probably be haunted the rest of their lives or blame themselves anyway, but it's just a weird situation and so sad for sure

I'm torn on the kids - I hope they're old enough to remember their father but at the same time I don't want them to be old enough to be horribly scarred and effected, though they probably will be anyway.
And the poor wife.
And of course rest of his family, friends, and coworkers. His poor parents, gosh....
