It is a Grackle. Never heard of it and found out that they do not range past the Rockies so are not in California

The range map says they are in Massachusetts. They look like black birds

Speaking of birds, they had a bird of prey segment at The Royal. It was neat; lovely to see large birds. The presenter was very good and charismatic

Omg those things are all over the place in Ontario. I haven't seen them in Alberta so I think their habitat stops even further east than the Rockies.
My mother, being the dimwit that she was, called them starlings. Didn't learn the difference until I was in my 40s.
