I hate that they quit teaching spelling in schools. Because they didn't want to hurt kids feeling by telling them it's wrong! Just do your best. Get a grip. Spelling is important in getting your message across!

They still teach it here’s in Indiana as well as cursive. The state also requires economics and government classes to graduate high school. Economics teaches balancing checkbooks and budgeting as well as stocks. It is also required to take arts electives and home economics (now called family and consumer sciences for some god awful reason) is required.

Our son is quite intelligent yet is one of the worst spellers that I have ever met. :barnie He spells phonetically, and over the years was allowed to get away with it because what he writes is otherwise well written. :he

My spelling is terrible. I should use a spell check really when doing stuff on the net.
I hated English at school. My parents were 'arts' graduates and naturally I suppose they tried to steer me towards arts subjects; it's what they knew about.
In some ways I have benefited from having lots of books in the house, encouraged to read and write. I got to read lots of 'the classics' when I was young.
The thing is, I was much better at science and my parents couldn't wire a plug let alone help me out with mathematics and physics.

Hope tagging him will help, good move IM. :thumbsup

She might not be allowed to type if she broke her wrist...maybe @Pawpawchick could let us know how she's doing if she can't?
she has a lot of swelling and wrist & forearm bruised with much pain. Her rib is cracked which is really causing the most pain and severly restricting her mobility My wife is a tough gal and she will make it through this with time. Thanks for everyone's concern!

I was up for best speller in my class and then the teacher said the winner would go to some far off school to compete. I deliberately missed the last word so someone else could go. I was agoraphobic and intensely shy.

Now the older I get(still better than dead) I have trouble remembering the easiest words.I can tell at a glance when something is spelled wrong and it really upsets me.
But for the life of me, I usually have to check google to see how it should be spelled. Or use an alternative word that I can remember.
