We have bamboo flooring that looks like walnut. It works well and no dust mites!

That sounds really nice! We are hopefully going to build our own house on five or more acres withing the next year and a half. I love all the options out there for flooring. I don't like carpeting because with animals it drives me bonkers.

All our floors are wood layed in 1930 of the original building of the house but good hardwood need to sand them and restain them would prefer a lighter stain on them

Since Ruffles returned to her tribe coop with her daughter after waiting until Hurry was over two moths old, Hurry seemed to have settled in without any drama. Last night Hurry launched a full out attack on her mother. I was following behind Tribe 1 as they headed towards their coop to roost, mainly to observe Mel's three chicks. I was trying to see how tightly they followed the seniors. I hadn't noticed any problems between Ruffles and Hurry.
Ruffles has in the past taken much longer to integrate her chicks into her tribe than any other hen here.
The record for the shortest time to introduce her chicks to the tribe is held by Donk. Donk spent three days in the maternity after she hatched her chicks and on day 4, pretty much as soon as they were mobile enough, she marched them out of the maternity unit and into Tribe 3's coop late one afternoon. She got them up the ramp first try. She backed herself into a corner with the chicks under her and waited for the rest of the tribe to come in and roost. Not one of Tribe 3 batted an eyelid at this. Donk sat in the corner glaring at them and they left her to it.
The median for integration by mother hen is just under 4 weeks (because of the range the average is misleading).
This in itself is rather interesting. Is it the confidence of the mother given her position in the tribe that determines when to integrate her chicks, or the mothers confidence in her chicks being able to stay out of trouble. This is assuming the chicks are hatched away from the tribes coop.
The standard view is that it is the mothers position in the hierarchy that has most influence on when the chicks are integrated. Ruffles is number 2 and is 8 years old. She's an experienced hen who has hatched 4 clutches now. Donk, at that time was near the bottom of her tribes hierarchy when she introduced her chicks. I have yet to find any trigger, common or not, that determines introduction time. I'm tempted to think that each hen adopts a slightly different strategy. The possibilities are increased here by having maternity units that provide a safe environment. This isn't the case for feral hens because they are unprotected on the ground.
Anyway, this has meant that Ruffles chicks are quite mature when she integrates them, and at around 10 to 12 weeks it's been usual to see the hens in particular, test their position in the hierarchy. Hurry did just that by attacking her mother Ruffles this evening. The whole tribe watched. Neither Cillin nor Treacle intervened. Cillin did think about it for a moment. I could see this because he moved towards them giving half a hackle flash and then back off. Fat Bird seemed particularly interested in the events.
The first attack by Hurry was full on battle order; off the ground, feet first. Ruffles much to my surprise (she's 8 and has a limp) was still quick enough to get her head out of the way and her body almost vertical but not quick enough to get her feet off the ground. It wasn't a very good strike by Hurry, her feet went down too quickly, she didn't get high enough and Ruffles avoided any contact. Hurry tried again and Ruffles got in the air and got foot contact (both of them) on Hurry. Hurry backed off for a few seconds and as soon as Ruffles turned her back she launched another full on attack. Ruffles replied with a double strike this time, the first pushing Hurry back and the second got her right on top of Hurry. Hurry launched five attacks on Ruffles on the way to the coop and Ruffles fought each attack off. Hurry separated from the tribe by 5 or 6 meters after the failed attack. Despite Ruffles's limp being more pronounced she was other wise unhurt and mase her way into the coop with Fat Bird and Cillin. Hurry was the last into the coop.
When I looked in a while ago, Ruffles and Fat Bird were perched on the lower perch and Hurry was on the floor directly under Ruffles.
This will be good for Ruffles. At 8 years old and a limp, plus a fondness for her food; if all the tribe has seen her defend herself then others are less likely to see her as an easy opponent to establish a higher position, if that is how it works.
Today Hurry spent most of the day next to Ruffles. No sign of any aggression between them.

Got the fixins with little trouble. Place was crowded, but we made it in and out in record time. Stopped at Red Lobster for lunch and a bit of drama. Someone crashed into the restaurant and 3 cars during the process. 
Thankfully we were parked on the other side of the building.
Recently a Trader Joe's opened up about 20 miles from here. We have been there once and liked the stuff that we bought. Since it's on the way we stopped while coming home. Spent $77 and got a lot of groceries. Their prices are really great. Good day all around - now for a cup of coffee.

I went to trader Joe's one time and I have not been back, this reminds me I should probably go there and check it out! People in the booths on either side of us had vehicles that were involved. One table was two sisters traveling in separate cars. When the younger pulled into the restaurant she saw her sister's car but decided to park on the other side of the restaurant. Said something just didn't feel right - I believe in providences.
