I refuse to use the furnace this time of year. Build a fire, or bundle up. I'm not paying to heat the house, only to open windows in a day or two. Same thing at the other end of summer.

No wood stove here...well there's one in the lower level but I've only used it to keep the pipes from freezing when the power went out for days in the winter(that was fun).
I have baseboard hot water heat, 3 zones so I can just heat the main living area if I want.

Yes I am building a fire, its 47 out

its dog bath day and it takes Tonys neck for ever to dry out.
Its quite a workout, I put them, one at a time, in the shower.

Who is your rooster in the first picture? Is that a cockerel in the third? Who is he? Do they give Poppa Goose any grief?
How far do they range?
Don't they trash your pretty flower pots?

Thank you The rooster is a direct descendant of Cheap Shot Charlie. His "brother" is ruler of the pig barn coop and he rules the two outside coops. Him and my old duffer shared the responsibility until recently. Now the old guy (7yrs ish) is run off by himself quite a bit.

The two middle ones in the third picture are cockerels and the two outside are pullets. There are two more cockerels from that batch that aren't pictured. The boy on the left got all of the personality in that bunch! He loves the hose Follows me all over to drink out of it.

All of the babies love Papa Goose. Such an odd babysitter. He even runs the dogs off if they get too close. Nahla was about 40' from them one day, and paying them no mind, when he came out of no where - wings spread and hissing. Scared the crap out of her! Poor girl.

The chickens range around 300' either side of their coops. Couple acres? Not all of them go that far, for certain. They tend to mostly hang in their yard and in the corrals where they're safe. And the barn...pooping all over the place! Luckily, the migratory hawks are few and far between and the ravens are all over the place. A handful come to the end of the barn to steal cat food from the three stooges:

They head out this end to wander around the haystack and eat bugs.

Surprisingly, my flowers have never been bothered by the chickens. I have two barrels out front that are always full in the summer, a couple on the porch, and various seedlings that I'm trying to kill grow sitting on the ground. I'm afraid, now that I've said that, they'll be decimated when I get home I put up the window box on the coop (that I painted last year) and will plant that soon. That one will be right in the mix of them, so we'll see if it survives!

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready. It's nippy out there it's only day one of the three day cold snap. My determination not to build a fire this late in the season may falter.

I've got to get a move on and run the dogs before the rain starts. And get that load of wood chips for mulching around the garden beds, and weed trimming and mowing the lawn before it starts raining... oh, who the hell am I kidding? I'm just going to run the dogs!!

We are still showing 104 for Saturday, 106 for Sunday and 101 for Monday.

No fires here!

What do the three stooges think about the kitten you found?

They haven't met, yet. I can't believe they'll be bothered by the new kitties. They're too calm and too used to all kinds of activity around there. Bear kitty has looked in the door at them, but I won't let him in yet. Hannibal and Heidi (hide-y?) are getting big. I need to snap a picture, they're so cute

I'll bet that is a workout! They're beautiful. Are they full Rottweiler's?

When I was growing up I could handle the heat better. Now that I am over 60, it gets to me when it is hot.

100% AKC papered, bread to conformation. Sister Ziva 2y7m & Brother Tony is 1y7m same dad different moms. We've had Rotts for 38yr's. They are best buds
