BYC Café

He just guessed that the lunch was from a customer. It was actually from one of the owners, as a thanks for getting a big job done. And, everyone got a bonus for the same reason.

I'm so glad he works for people who value their employees. His getting fired three years ago was a huge blessing. (But what a disguise! LOL)
Cool Beans!
One of those door closes, window opens kind of deals, eh?
What kind of work does he do?

He had worked for 34 (!!) years at a professional photo lab. It's where we met -- yup, I married my boss; sometimes it works out very well. Out of the blue on Friday in August, the owner said they were letting him go. (I found out later it was NOT the owner's idea to let him go.)

He has worked in the darkroom, knew the wet photography process up, down, forward and back. He knew printing of several kinds on large flatbed printers, mounting on substrates, running a large flatbed cnc cutting machine, and the maintenance on all of it. And had been on salary for most of those 34 years.

The only machine he had never run was the one I ran. :)

So all that knowledge, loyalty, excellent work ethic, experience was sent out the door. A week later, his current employer snapped him up. He does everything he used to do, except the photographic processes, plus a lot of fabrication. He's much happier. I'm much happier too.

Yes, I stayed on at a place that had let my husband go. As I said, I was still an employee, but I wasn't married to my job anymore.

Nope! Retired! Hubby plans to retire next July.

Hubby did propose to me at work. He left me a 10 letter message on a computer screen. (10 letters was the limit you had for the name for a file.)

We got married at the courthouse ($10, 5 minutes, a few coworkers and friends), the "reception" was at our house: hotdogs and burgers on the grill.

The "announcements and invitations" was a note taped to the time clock, honeymoon was a week on Isle Royale.

Cheap, but it's worn very well. :)
