BYC Café

Birds of all sorts sure do hate change.
I think the way I have the flaps right now is how they're going to have to stay for at least a month because Tink's chicks are hatching in one week and she won't be able to come and go with little chicks in tow.

It's always a good training method. Some dogs are reluctant to use kennel flaps, and keeping them partially opened speeds the process.

Have I mentioned that Miss Maggie Mae is a manipulative b*tch? That's literally and figuratively. She played me big time last night and forced me to swear at her. :lau

Well, you know the term for female dogs...

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

I installed magnetic closure screen doors over the entrance into the run. The chickens are obviously terrified of these flappy things. I propped one corner open and had about six birds brave enough to go through. Fabio walked up to it initially, the curtain that wasn't pinned down flapped maybe three inches, and he ran like hell! Had the entire flock in a tizzy! The young guy, Ace, walked out and he's outside now with three of the senior hens and two of the second year hens.
Oh the drama of trying something new to keep the wild birds out.
It can take them a while to get used to a change in the coop\run!

Now that I have my garden cart back (it needed a new tire), I'm planning to shovel some of the lovely compost out of the run and put it in the garden. Then I'll rake the bedding out of the coop and scare the hell out of the chickens. And then put a new bale of shavings in the coop to scare them again.

Eventually, they'll forgive me. And enjoy scratching everything around.
