BYC Café

I was hoping to find a good update on Digit.... ?
He's back home. The swap was a joke. Seems the only people in attendance were the other "vendors" and a random customer or two from the diner. It was too cold, windy and rainy for a decent turnout.
The only good thing is that I think my distance from the other birds, the length of time I was there and the weather kept him pretty well protected.

I need to get the wind break panels and (shower curtain) tarps up around the run. Then I need to put the filter material over the openings in the coop. I have to get this done this week, before we go to NC.

We're going with a detour to Pittsburgh. DH has a college friend there who is dying of breast cancer. So any time he sees her may be the last time. I've never met her, so I'm looking forward to doing that. And she's looking forward to finally meeting me.

It'll be a very bittersweet visit. But one nobody wants to miss.

Sounds like a story there…

I need to start planning now on how to break the ice on watering fountains when we eventually see some temps in the teens.... We have to get a taste of the Ice Age a few times each winter.
I use either an aerator to keep the livestock trough ice free. Or I break the ice with a hammer.

It would be hard to setup so many 5 gallon fountains with aeration but a hammer will work. What creates the problem is waterlines freezing that deliver water to the fountains.... We had 3 nights in a row of 15° temps and got through them and so we will again. We have do many more houses this year and have not been able to downsize as planned. I did talk to someone earlier and now have a reputable place to take birds and sell. They don't come in contact with any other birds in the event they don't sell. l still have 40 hens that need to find a new home.
