BYC Café

Only 2 eggs yesterday.
Never seen the slow down start so early,
downside of old birds I guess.
Just when I think they're slowing down, I get a couple of 5 or 6 egg days in a row.

One, Little, has decided she's done for the season, I believe. Last year she stopped in August; this year it was June. The two other 4 year olds are still laying.

Back in June I was getting 4-9 a day, with a few nest messes from softies. Then there was a spate of molted feathers. The last couple weeks it's been 3-5, all from the 6 youngest birds.

Me too. But I've got one mother and 2 broodies. I'm going to get Jody setup on the nest tonight and giver her 5 egg in pretty heavily bowled nest to see if she can cover them. She had 5 of my girls eggs under her once so I think she can handle that. I don't expect 100% fertility on this batch either.

I think I've got 2 girls and a boy with Savannah. And naturally, the little lavender is my boy suspect. As usual, I'll let him stay until he pisses me off too bad then off he goes.

Fabio and Ann have started to molt. I expect Savannah to start soon. The kids are already starting to get on her nerves. I saw her up on a branch in the run yesterday morning preening while her kids looked dejected sitting on the ground beneath her.

Good morning Cafe. Coffee is ready.

When I closed the door to the ward to give Savannah time to get settled somewhere else with her kids, that somewhere was smack dab in front of the door into the coop. I had to tread lightly on lock up.

Last night she was not in her normal spot. I thought she may have switched corners. Nope. I found her and her kids in a nest box. Nope! I plucked her out first and placed her on a roost then scooped all three kids out at once and roosted them right next to her.

Jody did not get her hatching eggs last night. She went into panic mode when I placed her on the wet nest with 3 fakes. If she's settled down by this afternoon, I'll get her some eggs tonight.

I got a call from the doctor's office with the results of my blood work. I always ask for a printed copy to be mailed to me so I can go over all the numbers. But I couldn't resist asking for the two I was most concerned about: total cholesterol and my LDL.

Both have gone down 20+ points! :yesss:

Oatmeal and steel cut oats for the win! And exercise and losing 10 pounds. I also cut out a lot of the cheese I used to eat, and that might have helped too.

This inspires me to keep having oatmeal 5x a week for breakfast and working out on the elliptical 20 minutes a day.

Good for you!

Good morning, Cafe', and thanks for the coffee.
I think it's primarily the exercise.
That's a factor for sure.
Aging gracefully? Nah. I'm gonna kick age in the patootie.
I will fight 'aging' every step of the way. Mom always said, "Getting old is no sin, but acting old is."
