BYC Café

Good morning and thanks for the hot coffee!
DH and I are heading to MORF's and will help with some tree work. He is making chili for lunch and he is so happy, excited, and relieved to be able to "do the right thing" by making us (his ranch hands) a meal when we help out. LOL!

Have some fun and enjoy your day, Cafe!

I reached out to the Yahoo from yesterday and told them that if he wasn't going to take that Easter Egger that he was going to end up on my table. I'm dropping him off to the guy Sunday morning on my way out to the poultry swap that's less than 3 miles from where he lives.

This morning on our run we saw a very large, beautiful male fisher. We immediately turned and went the other way as I have never seen one down here before. Something to keep in the back of my mind with Piper on the loose because it could easily kill her.

Wow most are not native to USA.
They are exclusively native to North America.
They are very skilled at hunting and eating porcupines.
The Fisher population in New York was nearly completely decimated in the 70s and that is when the NYSDEC began to reintroduce them to the state. They have a healthy population now and are very common in my area of the state. So much so that there is a regulated trapping season for them but they are not to be hunted as small game.

I have always been fascinated with them and think that they are magnificent animals. They and the black bears are the reason my chickens reside behind a strong electric fence.

Good morning Cafè. Coffee is ready.

I found a local swap to take the boys to today. My plan, as always, is to park as far away from other birds as I can, keep the boys in their crates inside the car with the rear hatch open with the car running with the air conditioner blowing out and not to permit anyone to come within 10 ft of them. If you know you're going to take one I will hand him over to you! Stay away from my car!

Fishers seem to have started a comeback in NJ too. I haven’t seen one and I don’t believe they have been found near me yet.
Apparently they were introduced into PA in the 1990s and also NY and it is believed they have now spread back into NJ.
Cool but terrifying creatures.
