Planted pepper & eggplant yesterday, I found a bunk bed ladder someone dumped in a field a while back, I lugged it home figuring I could use it for something. The something, turns out to be a trellis I'm mounting to the mailbox I keep small garden tools in. I'll be planting cucumber there soon! Don't understand why people feel the need to illegally dump their trash, it would have been far easier to cut the ladder up a bit & put in the trash. The seeds I did start are showing signs of life, cucumber included..

So, does anyone want some rain? We have plenty to spare!

400

On a more serious note, we got fencing for the garden today to keep the neighbors chooks out. But now I'm concerned that the rain will kill the seedlings if we put them outside. Is there something I can use to protect them? We have almost 500, we can't bring them in and out after storms.

Can you hang a tarp above them? Depending on what you've got, if the direct rain isn't a problem, you could just raise them on something so that the water drains from them. It will wash away nutrients, but if you fertilize when you plant them, it shouldn't be an issue.

Sent it this way! Will the eaves of your house offer enough protection on the leeward side? Elevate if needed!

I'm not sure we have a tarp big enough here... Hmmm... Time for another trip to tractor supply!

The garden is pretty far from the house, and the plants would not be protected from the chooks there. I'll work on sending water your way!

@Peep_Show
 that's terrible! I hope they bounce back.

I'm almost ready to start planting- I think next weekend I'll be ready. Hopefully my pumpkins aren't super tangled in the pot and transplant well. M cerry tomatoes are now about 2 inches tall. Do you think they could survive outside now?

I would put the tomatoes outside during the day and bring them in at night for about a week if you can. We are having nights in the 40's here in KY the next couple of days. I planted my tomato seedlings in two liter"greenhouses" once they had three leaves this year. They seem to be tolerating even the chilly nights okay. I'll keep them in the mini-greenhouses until I'm ready to plant them in the ground.
