Do you guys know how to keep plants well watered but not have the soil get moldy?

I found this weird fact a while ago. It was to put cinnamon on the soil. I tried it, and overall it has been working. There is a little bit of mold, but no where near as much as before. I am going to do an experiment testing it sometime later when life calms down a bit more.

Cool! I'll have to try that.

Cool beans on the lemongrass. I'm thinking of planting some ginger as an indoor plant to replace this truly ugly palm we have. I've already ripped up one palm and planted a dragonsblood palm in its stead, so I think we may continue with "tropical plants as indoor decor plants".

If I were to leave the potatoes in the ground during the winter, would that work? I am thinking that if there are any tubers, they will send up shoots in the spring, if not, then there is no reason for me to dig them up anyway. Thanks in advance!

I would think that since they are tubers they'd be alright sitting in the ground till spring. I've had potatoes that I missed when harvesting come up the next spring several times. However if your in a really cold climate it may not be so for you.

I'm in Zone 4, and always have missed potatoes sprout in the spring. My best potato crops have been from missed spuds that came up in the middle of the corn. Since then, I've purposefully planted potatoes amongst the corn!

So you are thinking of harvesting the tubers & the slips for the next crop at the same time? I'm thinking the quality of the tubers would suffer but I don't know for sure. When I start my slips the potatoes aren't editable afterwards. Let us know how that works out for you.

Yesterday I planted ashley cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, strawberries and blueberries. The jelly melons are now seedlings and we have snake beans flourishing plus a certain type of squash or a plant of that family just popped up out of no where.
