Just in case anyone might want to order from Summerstone Nursery they are spring code for free shipping "springfree".

I ordered some things and got free shipping.

I am going to try to plant in the kiddie pools I had used and are just laying around. I hope to plant strawberries in one and some herbs and a few veggies in another.
I also ordered a Raintree drip kit so that when we are camping I won't have to worry.

I am trying to figure out a way to raise the pools off the ground so I won't have to bend over much as I am needing hip replacement surgery.
I do have some concrete blocks laying around and I was thinking about trying to use them but I was wondering if the pools would be wobbly on blocks.
You have my sympathy regarding joint pain that interferes with your pleasure! I think those pools would be tippy and/or collapse if raised up on blocks. Have you looked into straw or hay bale gardening? Sounds like it may be just what the "dr. ordered". You could even set your bales up on top of a pallet or two to raise it even higher. And you could put a tarp or plastic between the bales and the pallet, to recycle your water. (let the water collect in a basin or lined hole in the ground, and then pump it back up with an aquarium pump. It takes about 2 weeks to prepare a bale for planting.

I rooted a grape cutting!

I can relate to disabling pain, especially when bending down... I have a herniated disc in my lower back and when it gets irritated and inflamed will cause sever sciatic nerve pain, it can get to the point that I'm mostly bed ridden until it relaxes and that can happen from simply bending or twisting the wrong way from zero to bed ridden in a second... The only saving point is that rarely gets that aggravated, but there is no shortage of other levels of pain from many days of no pain and everywhere between...

I agree the pools would likely be pretty wobbly and prone to sagging, bending and possibly even dumping their load on blocks due to their round shape, bales might be an option or again I recommend container gardening that is easy to elevate on blocks or whatever...

Another option would be concrete mixing tubs, they are a little more substantial vs kiddie pools and being rectangular they will be easier to place on blocks, but at only 8" depth you will be limited to what you grow...

Thanks y'all for all the great suggestions. I will look around and ask dh to help me get something ready before my plants and seeds get here. I will bring up straw bale gardening again.

Thank you a for your suggestions and sharing your thoughts with me. I am sorry you all have had muscle and back problems and experienced the pain going through the healing process. I pray that y'all will not feel the pain any longer. I hope you all have a very blessed gardening season. Thanks again so much.

I have planted celery seeds repeatably over the last 2 years and I can't get it to grow for anything... I'm going to try and plant some started 'stumps' this year and see what happens...

Normally I can get them to sprout, they're just not sprouting as fast as the other seeds have. I'm not worried, I'm planting early for a reason!

I just started a celery 'stump' today, the grocery store we were shopping at yesterday had organic celery for 99 cents and they are big bunches, finally ended my celery strike as the current $2.50 and $3.00 small bunches that have been the norm as of late in my area were just too rich for me...
