No, I've never covered mine, they're going on 4 and are absolutely loaded in berries. (There are only two though)

I discovered something! So I pulled up the readiest looking garlic plant in one of the other rows (Planted about 3 weeks before the others) and it hadn't even started to bulb yet which I thought was weird and I pulled up a few others and no bulbs so I went back to the other row and pulled up about 5 pounds of garlic all with nice plump well defined cloves which really had me scratching my head

but then I was digging around one bulb and I noticed the soil was really warm, way warmer than the other rows and then I realized that I put pine straw on those two rows to keep the weeds down but not on the other rows but with all the hoeing I did the pine straw got mixed into the dirt around the bases of the garlic and had started to decompose which had made the soil hot making the garlic produce bulbs faster. (Not sure if thats a good thing or not

)

Thanks. Indeed and its almost 4 years old.

Mine were about 4 yrs. When I lost the last ones. I am going to try pine straw over them this winter.
