Rhubarb can be tough to grow...It usually grows best in Northern States where the average summer day is about 80 degrees. They do not do well in heat and can have trouble producing fruit...also, be sure to keep the base clear of any ground cover weeds. They can get choked out pretty easily, and this will effect the fruit. I've also been told not to fertilize with manure, as it can burn the shoots. I always fertilize my garden with fresh compost (never any chemical fertilizers), and I get high yields. Rhubarb is picky. One friend of mine has been very successful in growing it, another has never had the plant produce. Keep in mind, we are all from the same town, so it isn't a regional issue. They are just a real pain sometimes! But best of luck! I hope you harvest alot.Who here grows rhubarb? I just planted two, and am really excited to harvest them next year =) any advice to make sure they do well?
