Just joining in on this garden thread. Hi everyone! :)

1000

A couple of the flowers are I have blooming right now:

I'm working on my ''weed propagation'' project right now. I have Violets, Curly dock, Burdock, Dandelions, Mullein, Chickweed, Plantain, and many others. (as well as my other plants) Most of these ''weeds'' have medicinal properties, so I hope to be able to propagate them for both my flock and for wild salads. (You can find out more of why I'm such a big wild plant fan here: Spring greens for your flock (and you))
I'm also getting my flowers started, and I need to get some more garden beds made up.

Love you're page with photos.. it is interesting that each year some weeds grow in some weeds don't.

x2 I had never considered giving hens the weeds but mine aren't even fully feathered yet. I've got some time to learn.

@hennible , I think I read half of that document about hoop houses yesterday. I have heard of them but I don't think it would be for me. I just sprung chickens and indoor growing on my husband. If I tax him anymore he might snap.

I will keep in mind the seed saving when my plants are producing. I don't understand all the terminology though- like crossing and currant. Once I decide what seeds I want to save, I'll have more questions.

I did dry out a chunk of green pepper seeds from the store bought pepper a few weeks ago. I just let it dry naturally near the window. I don't know if that's how it is supposed to work but meh.

Had my kids start some cilantro and pepper mix last night. The pepper mix is supposed to make rainbow peppers- if it works that would be interesting.

Is it Bolivian rainbow? They're supposed to be really pretty, you should have green, yellow, orange, red and purple peppers on it at the same time.

This is probably a good place to ask, anyone here try watering your seedlings with club soda?

RE: Husbands and new ideas: it's a wise wife who plants the seed of an idea in her husband's mind and waters it well, cultivates it, and tends it gently until he becomes thoroughly convinced that it's his idea, and not only is it his idea, but it's one of the better one's he's come up with in a long time. So many arguments are prevented with this approach.

Re: pepper seeds, I prefer to save the brightly colored ones. (Red, deep orange) Green peppers are merely un-ripe peppers, so they are less likely to produce a viable seed. Any one want to weigh in on what kind of success you've had on saving and sprouting seeds from a still green pepper?

Gotta love it when kids are interested in gardening and farming. An other thing that needs to be carefully nourished.

All in all, he's a good sport. I think we will try the raised beds this year and the chickens and go from there. He's offered to help me build the coop, which is a drastic change from when I first brought the chickens home. I guess it helps that they are starting to warm up on him.

I have heard many things related to making them men think it's their idea/nurture it/ seed the thought but I don't know how much would apply here. He knows what stock I come from. If my mom wants to do it, despite anything anyone says, she will. I have inherited that and it's obvious.

Oh wow can't believe you read that much! Hoop houses are a must for me ( it's cold up here eh?! ) I thought the other greenhouse people may like it.
X2 what lazy gardener said about the pepper seeds. But natural drying is great for peppers most of the time, especially hot peppers in my experience.
@vehve maybe someone on this thread has done the club soda rather than water exspeiment...
