If you plant squash or pumpkin put the chickens in when the flowers open as they eat the worm which live inside the flower and stops it from boring into the gourds. Also those flowers are good to eat wash and dry well, dip in batter (like tempura batter and deep fry)
 






Slipped out between downpours to take pictures of my volunteers . Vining ones are from small pear gourds . The bush must be squash or mixed . You can fry small gourds and gourd / squash mixes . These will do until my planted squash bear . I thought for sure the frost would get these . I guess I should plant when the volunteers sprout .
 
I trans planted a number of watermelons. WOrried as they dont like transplanting; worried as the manure is a bit raw in places; worried that it is a bit late in June. Praying for a few melons !!!!!

Will set the other starts in another garden under different conditions, just as a back up.

I like my fried squash . I also fry the blossoms . Planted some Tatume Mexican Zucchini . It has been awhile since I grew any . Not common this far north . Ordered it off eBay .

Oh nice! I hope they make it. I planted some pumpkins as an experiment that I had to transplant four out of 22 look a little weak.
