Yup, I dont bring in anything but hay and bagged feed. . .. . enough weird things come in on the hay from dead snakes to unwanted weed seed. . . as well as wanted "grass" seed. lol

When at the comminity garden-- they use lawn clippings to mulch but so far no one knows if th it is clean of pesticidees. ... . need to ask further as it might be ok . But I cant help feel concerned.. .. . Kids and I put in 7 man hours weeding and harvesting cukes, summer squash, zucchini and eggplant. My first eggplant!! I sure need to try eggplant next year. SUre need a BIGGER garden too. lol

Corn is OFFICIALLY blooming! It's kinda shrimpy (just over five and a half feet) but I am SUPER excited. Melons are also beginning to fall over and spread so I'm excited for those lovely Charentais french melons later in the year. I got one bean plant for seed and it's so heavy it actually fell off the corn.

My corn is skimpy this year as well, it was the only thing I didn't plant in containers and it's showing, too much weed competition... Going to address that better next year... Over 1000 seeds planted only about half germinated and survived, the only corn that is showing any real promise is the indian corn I planted for the kids, but even that is only about 4 feet tall and has small ears...

Peas, beans, lettuce and radishes are done for the summer harvest, planted a 2nd round for fall...

My melons all went in late but are taking off like wildfire... I was working a new area for them away from everything else so they had room to roam, and simply didn't get it done in time, going to have to see what develops before frost hits...

We actually planted it three times in batches of 25. This final batch only sixteen stalks sprouted. For an experiment it wasn't bad, and now I know what I'm doing for next year when it's biointensive companion planting with beans and squash.
