BYC Genetic/Breed Calculator Huge Task Ahead!

Should we get the BYC staff involved? If for nothing else we should get this thread featured so we can get more opinions and ideas...
Just us ourselves, I don't know if we can do it. How do you make a genetic calculator? Who speaks fluent chicken genotype? Who reeeeelly likes to color?

Ya exactly.
Talk about putting the cart before the horse.
They're already painting the cart and no one has the horses.

I think it's a good idea for the website, but it's a big idea, and none of us can really do that. If we got the officials involved it might happen, but it's still a project, even if you are an adult getting paid for this thing you've never done before.
They might find someone who knows something, though.

I feel like staff should be involved.... they may not want this on BYC or some other reason such as expenses.

Hehe, someone reading this might be like ughhhh not another project. I mean I don't know them, but that's what I would be doing.

The Kippenjungle breed calculator does that. Probably easier.

EDT: Didn't finish typing sentence. "Probably easier to do that than to draw all combinations."

But thinking about it, if people know the genetics and breeds of their birds, they might be able to take pictures of the crosses they've got and link them to the stylised pictures. Wouldn't work with crosses of a cross, obviously, but for birds from two homozygous parents...

That's would be me. I like the idea, but Kippenjungle is actually pretty advanced and well developed. As much as I love this idea, it seems like we don't have the resources for it to work. Simply because Kippenjungle doesn't make sense at first doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. I hate to put a botch on the project, but do we have the resources for this kind of this thing? I think we could possibly do something with simpler genetics for beginners, but this is a lot bigger of a project than it seems.

That's would be me. I like the idea, but Kippenjungle is actually pretty advanced and well developed. As much as I love this idea, it seems like we don't have the resources for it to work. Simply because Kippenjungle doesn't make sense at first doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. I hate to put a botch on the project, but do we have the resources for this kind of this thing? I think we could possibly do something with simpler genetics for beginners, but this is a lot bigger of a project than it seems.

I should add on. I know a bit about genetics. There are some genes that easily determine color shades, (usually at least,) but many of the pattern genes are determined by multiple genes. And some genes haven't even been figured out yet.

There would also be the issue of 'would this project attract more people to the site?' Because, even if it did, would it attract enough people to actually be beneficial?
It is a huge project and would probably take literal years, not to mention time and money. I feel as though I underestimated how hard this was going to be, and I understand now that it will be costly, and may not make the site better.
I am very stressed out at the moment and I really can't do this, sorry about causing a fuss. I don't need the stress of this.

It's alright. It is a genuinely good idea, I just don't know how to do it. Don't worry to much, you did good.

But it doesn’t have all of the color varieties and some outcomes it doesn’t have pictures for.

Yea, I think even some of the crosses have could be done to be able to draw illustrations for it. Like I could cross Buff Rocks with say Blue Andalusians and draw my outcome.

Is there any paticular breed you'd like to draw a base for? Or would you like to just colour bases?
