Love IT!!!! What did you end up using for the backing?

Do you know you can have the team members actually sign the quilt if you have any plain fabric in it? Just a though. They make special pens that are permanent and washable.

I had to chuckle when you said zebra, when I was your age (a loooong time ago) I had a thing for zebra print too.(still do) My mom made me a full length dark green wool coat, it was very conservative on the outside....but the lining was fake zebra fur. I loved that coat!

I used black fleece. It was on sale for $1 a yard and is thick/warm. I got 4 yards, but have extra. I like it. I was going to get zebra fleece for the back, but $24.99 a yard

That machine your DH is looking at will be a good machine for you. I have a Janome and it's very good. I bought myself a new machine when I started a machine quilting class because my old singer wasn't going to do what I wanted it to do. Good luck.

Opinions please, I just don't know what border to use. The feathers in the blue pattern are gold, pink, blue, olive (matches the olive around the heart) and there is a sandy color. I was thinking a corally colored pink would look good, but I don't know...

edit to add I haven't ironed it yet

The feathers really pop but it's just hard to tell with the webcam picture. I dug throught my fabric I got from people and found some goldish green tint fabric that shimmers just a little. It matches some of the feathers so I'm going to use that

I sew and quilt. I first learned to do it by hand but my daughter talked me into learning machine quilting since it goes faster. I have a quilt top almost finished, full size log cabin and hope to finish the top this weekend. I've done several baby quilts and have photos of the one I did for my daughter. Will share as soon as I learn how to post them. I have sewn comfort quilts for our local women's shelter through our local quilt guild but didn't take pictures. Hope to get into more serious quilting again soon. The holidays got me off track. My DH bought me a table for cutting material on so that will be a help. He ought me it and a new computer/sewing chair for my birthday which isn't until next week but they were on sale this week.

Okay all I first talked to everyone back in early Oct about starting this whole quilting thing. I want to thank you all for the push I needed to try and do these things.

Since then I made my hubbys holloween outfit, a crown royal bag. Then went on to make quite a few reusable snackbags, and giftwrap (planning for the long BEEPING plane ride with a 2 y/o from AK to SC). I also have made quite a few shopping bags from my feed bags from all the critters.

Now I am jumping in the deep end and trying to make a friend a quilt for her new baby. She lost her triplets at 22 weeks and is now well into her second trimester with this most wonderful Christmas gift. So I just wanted to give you all the heads up I will be asking questions and begging for help here as soon as I am back from my back surgey.

So Thanks again all

ETA ~ here is the pattern I am wanting to do. What do yall think? Could a newby do this and not have to toss it in the trash
