CACKLE CACKLE CACKLE HORRIFIC HORRIFIC CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM OWNER

I'm sorry that some of you have been having problems with Cackle. As stated before, they got overwhelmed this year with orders. I may be one to blame for some of it, as I have been recommending them to everyone I talk to about chickens.

Remember the deal with the sick chicks from McMurray this spring? So many here got on the "Don't use McMurray" band wagon too.

Please remember they are trying to hatch live chicks!!!! Can anyone on here take orders and guarantee 100% that their hatches will produce the amount and the sex that people want on the days they want them?

If I was working there and got slammed on the phone like they get it on here, I don't know how long I could be courteous either.

Please be a little more civilized, and you will be treated as such in return.

OK, I'm done with my rant.

But for the customer service there is no excuse. It may be overwelming but you should always stay calm and colected. Ive had bad days with my busness but i stayed calm and it came out alright. Yelling, and rudness will never fix anything. Especially if that was the owner they should have explaned and been curtureous (spelling) to the customer. Alot of the hatcheries have been overwelmed too so its not just cackle.

Maybe that's Mrs. Cackle responding above.....hehe. Sorry, couldn't resist. I am overwhelmed by the amount of activity on this thread. Thanks everyone for all your advice and consolations. We lost some chicks today...not sure why, but I sure as heck am not calling to ask!! One dose of that bitter pill was enough for me. Anyway, yeah, we all have bad days, but when you act like a lunatic on the telephone (literally...referencing being a Christian, ranting and raving to complete silence on my end) it is time to get out of the business or up your meds. This was not about being kind and getting kindness in return, it was " calmly and politely ask what is going on and get blasted".... by the owner of a business. So anywho...we're the process of reporting this mess to the card company. The money really isn't the point, it is the principle of continuing to send orders to people who have cancelled them. But, thanks again. I'll let you know the outcome.

This is a total cop-out...any reputable business plans for unexpected events like a huge increase in orders. They can hire more people, focus on great customer service and turn down orders if they are "overwhelmed". Shipping cancelled orders, failure to answer phones and e-mails are just plain bad business practices.

It turns out that Cackle charged my credit card company a month ago when I placed my order!

I called seven times this morning and kept getting voice mail. I kept on calling until I got a real live person. She finally said that the order would be cancelled and I requested an email cancellation. She stated that it wouldn't be posssible to send me one because she DIDN'T HAVE A COMPUTER!

I asked how it was possible for me to order chicks over the internet if she didn't have a computer. She told me that there is only ONE COMPUTER and that only the owner has access to it!!!!!

I then requested a confirmation number for a cancellation and was told that she could not do that either. Finally, she stated that she would send one my snail mail.

How can a business operate with only one computer? When I asked if the owner would send an email confirmation, the answer was, "No."

I was flabbergasted.

I ordered from McMurray and could not be happier with myorder. As for the customer service from Cackle, I agree that they should have been more courteous. at least until they hung up the phone. I have had to be polite and listen when Iwanted to strangle the person on the other end of the line, but I listened and answered politely after I hung up then I yelled at them since then they could'n hear me. With prices on EVERYTHING up so high they probably got over whelmed, but that is still no excuse for rudeness.

Actually, I got my first shipment from McMurry right when all those sick chicks were going around. Luckily, I hadn't ordered any of the affected breeds or at least I didn't get any. I didn't hesistate at all to order another batch that showed up last week. Never had a problem with McMurry and even spoke to them at the time of all the sick chick issues asking if I would be reimbursed if the chicks died and I was told yes. Be sure to call if I had problems. That's customer service. I've been happy with McMurry and would order from them again.

Just my .02

In late winter it was McMurry now its Cackle! Go read the terms from Sandhill Preservation! My neighbor orders from them. The way their terms are is they will only take orders by regular mail and they will send them when they can, so U are at their disposal. One thing about it is they will get paid on time and U will get chicks anytime.

I had rather order eggs from someone and take a chance on the postal service dragging them through hell and high waters, well this is just me.

Well, I don't think I ever order from Cackle knowing how you were treated and CHarged for It!!! That is very strange for any business to treat customers that way (if they want to stay in business, that is)

I've only ordered from Murray Mcmurray~two years now & those chicks came all the way to SC. This second set, "Rainbow Layers" came about 10 days ago. All but one out of 28 made it & had no problems at all. The Customer Service at MM has been really courteous & helpful & I get a live person every time. They even answer my email questions in a timely manner & offer me extra advice as I am "newer" to raising chicks.

You are a great person taking care of all those "surprise chicks" though. My Goodness!!

IIRC (and a fellow Missourian with a copy of the Rural Missourian in front of them can correct me if I'm off base) from an article about them in the Elec. Coop's paper, they recently switched over management to the current generation of the family. I expect if they don't get their problems worked out their, over 80, instate, breeders will abandon them.

Oh, at the feedstore, yesterday morning, there was a new batch of Orps/Cochins/BSL's/Leghorns from Cackle. No problems reported (I asked). But we're only seventy or so miles up the road from them.
