Calico Orpington, gender? Update he just strarted crowing!

I don’t have much experience with orps specifically but my first impression is cockerel. Really vibrant colouring and upright stance, bright red comb and wattles even though the comb is small... Looks like some super shiny saddles there too, although it’s hard to tell with all that superb butt fluff.

I agree. This is a tough one. I am seeing some saddles droop down just today and he does fluff his hackles from time to time. Oh my, I don't need two!

If the older is putting up with the younger... and the hens/(pullets?) don't seem stressed out... it may be possible that you could keep them both. How many hens do you have?

Right now they're all good but come spring,,,,that will be the test I guess. I'll have 10 hens with them. We'll see.

Definitely a cockerel. The English Orpingtons develop slower and sometimes I second guess myself at a younger age with mine, but in the next couple of months he'll fill out and start crowing if he hasn't already.
