what kind of chickens are you getting?

Not Completely sure so dont quote me here. 2 Orpingtons some rhode island reds and some others I cant remember. The roo is a Barred Rock. She said they will all be big as they are all about 4-5months old which given my situation is probably best. I just cant deal with chicks right now and would probably have better luck letting them breed down the road.

Turkies are Bourbon Red & another one that starts with an "A", can't remember what Denny said.....LOL
My new home for the chicken pens has been ordered & is due to be installed in 3 weeks. It will begin with an 18' by 42' structure to be added to later after we take out a huge old China Berry tree that is rotted & in the way. That will be a big job like evrything seems to turn into.......LOL So goes life.......

Yeah I am noticing that. Everyone seems to be really nice. I am off to the store to get the materials I need to make a door life. Aside from a feeder, waterer, coup, 8 laying boxes, fake eggs, DE and the chickens, is there anything else you guys think I may need.. I have food already as well.

You don't need as many nest boxes as you have hens, by the way. The ratio is usually one for every four hens.

And they'll still share them, anyway. Some will stand outside an occupied, favorite nest box and cluck about having to wait. Even with empty nest boxes right next to the favorite, occupied one.

Yeah I know but I purchased the property and the hen house was included. If everything works out then we are hoping to increase our flock size over time by letting the hens breed. But for now we have what we have.

I find that to be true too. I have a metal 2 row nestbox that has 10 or 12 nestboxes in it & the chickens use the same 4 or 5 all the time. They must just take turns.................Silly chickens.

There are a few of us here that would like to set up a chicken lover's get together. We are alittle scattered around, Oakdale, Turlock, Knights Ferry, Winton & maybe a couple in Sonora & Modesto. Anyone interested or with any ideas please PM me. I am willing to do some work to help organize it. Anyone interested would be welcomed we just need to set it up & decide where to get together.
Karen in Turlock
